Migrating an international Drupal 11 site from Acquia DAM to Keepeek

launched in july 2026 drupal 11 migration multilingual webservices module

The context

The corporate website of a large international group, built on Drupal 11 and Site Studio and available in several dozen country / language combinations, relied on Acquia DAM (formerly Widen) for its entire media library. As the group had chosen Keepeek as its DAM, all of the site's media had to be switched over before the end of the Widen contract, at the end of July 2026: after that date, the files hosted by Widen would disappear.

A firm deadline, then, and a constraint that is simple to state: break nothing on a live production site, in any language.

The starting point

  • about 2,200 Drupal media backed by the DAM (images, videos, PDFs), referenced by content, menus and pages built with Site Studio;
  • nearly 900 Widen share links hard-coded in layouts, which did not match any Drupal media;
  • a few hundred media with no identified equivalent in Keepeek, but still used by pages;
  • a full DAM catalogue of more than 4,000 assets, half of which had never been used on the site but still had to be preserved.

My mission

Project carried out in partnership with Ex Fabrica and Théodore Biadala, who set up the Keepeek integration (media picker, rendering) and an initial migration tooling. I took charge of completing the migration and putting it into production, then everything that followed: image rendering, link cleanup and the complete removal of the former DAM.
